Mikayla Siemsen, Certified Nurse Practitioner, brings more than 15 years of experience to her role at Mille Lacs Health System. With a strong background in hospital, clinic, and home care settings, she focuses on patient education, shared decision-making, and practical, individualized care.
Raised in the Blaine-Andover area, Mikayla began college pursuing a degree in business. After deciding to shift paths, she returned home to begin her first nursing program while working as a nursing assistant. Her educational journey included multiple nursing programs, ultimately leading to a Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University. Over the years, she has worked in emergency medicine, pediatrics, geriatrics, behavioral health, dialysis, and primary care.
Mikayla’s approach to care emphasizes communication and patient involvement. “I believe people are more involved in their health when they not only understand it, but they help shape the plan,” she explains. She encourages informed choices and offers both conventional and alternative options when appropriate, helping patients feel confident in their decisions.
She now lives in Zimmerman with her husband and four children. Outside of work, her family enjoys hockey, golf, boating, and time outdoors, interests that reflect the same values she grew up with. Her connection to Mille Lacs County began early, with years of travel through the area on visits to her grandparents' cabin in Crosslake. She recalls those trips as early moments that shaped her appreciation for small-town communities.
Mikayla continues to stay engaged in current healthcare topics by listening to clinical podcasts during her commute. “It’s a good way to hear different perspectives and learn how care recommendations are changing,” she says.
With her broad clinical experience, steady communication style, and focus on patient empowerment, Mikayla serves as a knowledgeable and approachable provider for patients of all ages.
