Making an Impact: Key Contributors at MLHS

In August, Mille Lacs Health System celebrated Key Contributor’s Rally Week, an annual event recognizing employees who donate through the Key Contributors program, the employee-giving branch of the Mille Lacs Area Health Foundation. Formerly known as Spirit Week, the celebration included themed dress-up days, trivia games, cornhole toss, a dunk tank, and prize drawings, creating a fun way to honor those who give back and hoping to “rally” in more participants.
The Key Contributors program began as part of fundraising efforts for the Next Chapter: Building Our Healthy Future expansion, a $30 million project completed in February 2023. Donations from Key Contributors helped transform MLHS facilities to better serve the community. The expansion addressed long-standing needs, including modernizing inpatient hospital rooms, updating the emergency department, expanding surgery and waiting areas, improving patient privacy, and adding parking, storage, and dedicated patient drop-off areas. These improvements created a facility designed to enhance comfort, privacy, and convenience for patients and families.
Today, Key Contributor donations continue to fund meaningful updates across the organization. Over the past year, employee contributions have supported:
• Rehab Department: 500 new stress ball “dumbbells” for giveaways to patients
• Acute Care: 17 whiteboards for hospital rooms to improve communication, plus a clothing rack and crib for patient comfort
• Radiology: A music speaker system to create a calmer CT scan experience
• Facilities: A 14-foot hydraulic dump trailer to support facility-wide projects
• Isle Clinic: A picnic table for staff to enjoy some outdoor time on break
• Isle Pharmacy: A pill counter to improve speed on filling prescriptions and accuracy as a safety measure
As part of the Mille Lacs Area Health Foundation, the Key Contributors program works alongside broader fundraising efforts to support facility improvements, technology upgrades, and patient-focused programs. Together, these initiatives help ensure Mille Lacs Health System continues to meet the evolving needs of the communities we serve.
