Mille Lacs Health System (MLHS) has earned national recognition for excellence in Quality, receiving a 2025 Performance Leadership Award from The Chartis Center for Rural Health. The award highlights hospitals that consistently achieve strong performance - ranking in the 75th percentile or above - in clinical quality and patient safety.
“Being recognized for quality by an independent national organization affirms that our patients are receiving safe, evidence-based care close to home,” said Andy Knutson, Chief Executive Officer. “This award reflects the work of every member of our team – providers, nurses, and all team members who show up every day committed to delivering high-quality care for the communities we serve.”
“Quality and patient safety are built into our daily work,” said Janelle Christie, Chief Nursing Officer. “Our teams work together to ensure consistent, reliable care and continually look for ways to improve the services we provide. It feels good to be recognized for our hard work.”
The Performance Leadership Awards program is based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX®, a comprehensive and objective framework for assessing how rural hospitals are performing nationwide. The awards are presented by The Chartis Center for Rural Health in partnership with the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH). INDEX benchmarks are relied upon by rural hospitals, health systems with rural footprints, hospital associations, and state offices of rural health to measure performance across multiple areas that impact hospital operations and financial stability. This recognition is not just a single-year achievement but a reflection of the systems, processes, and culture that support sustained high-quality care at MLHS.
Mille Lacs Health System is a non-profit critical access hospital and Level IV Trauma Center serving patients across central Minnesota. MLHS provides comprehensive inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services through its hospital campus and network of primary care clinics.
