MLHS Offers Medication Assistance for Uninsured Patients

February 20, 2026

The cost of prescription medications can be a concern for individuals who do not have insurance coverage. For many people, even commonly prescribed medications for blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, infections, or mental health can become difficult to maintain without consistent and affordable access. When medications are delayed or skipped due to cost, managing both short-term and chronic conditions can become more challenging over time.

Mille Lacs Health System offers a Medication Assistance Program to help reduce prescription costs for eligible individuals. The program is made possible through participation in the federal 340B Drug Pricing Program, which allows eligible health systems to purchase medications at discounted prices. MLHS uses these savings to reduce prescription costs for qualifying patients, helping ensure that cost is not a barrier to necessary treatment. Medications are limited to a 30-day supply and are priced based on current costs, which may change as medication prices fluctuate.

This program supports both chronic medications, such as those used to manage diabetes, blood pressure, or asthma, and acute prescriptions, including short-term treatments like antibiotics and other medications needed for sudden illness or infection.

The Medication Assistance Program is available to individuals who do not have prescription insurance and are active patients of a Mille Lacs Health System provider. Prescriptions must be filled at an MLHS-owned pharmacy to qualify. Pharmacy staff verify eligibility and guide patients through the enrollment process, which can be completed directly at either community pharmacy location.

Programs like this are intended to reduce financial barriers and support continuity of care. Consistent access to medications plays an important role in managing chronic conditions, preventing complications, and maintaining overall health. Even short-term prescriptions for infections or acute illnesses can have a meaningful impact when they are accessible and affordable.

Patients who would like to learn more about eligibility or enrollment can contact the Mille Lacs Health System Community Pharmacy in Onamia at 320-532-2900 or in Isle at 320-676-3115. Pharmacy staff can answer questions, review qualifying medications, and explain next steps.

Medication affordability is an important part of overall health. By offering practical support for uninsured patients, Mille Lacs Health System works to ensure that cost does not stand in the way of necessary treatment and ongoing care.
