Expanded Eye Care Services at Mille Lacs Health System

March 23, 2026

Eye care services at Mille Lacs Health System continue to grow, making it easier for individuals to access a broader range of care close to home. Through expanded services with Dr. Ken Dodge of Pierz Eyecare, patients in Onamia now have greater access to routine and specialty eye care within the community.

Many eye conditions develop gradually and may not cause noticeable symptoms at first. Conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease can affect vision over time if left unmonitored. Regular eye exams allow providers to assess eye health, track changes, and recommend appropriate care based on individual needs. In addition to routine care, sudden changes in vision, eye discomfort, redness, or injury should be evaluated to prevent complications.

Dr. Dodge, who has been providing follow-up care for cataract surgery patients at MLHS, now offers a broader range of eye health services onsite. These expanded services include comprehensive eye health exams, evaluation of vision changes or eye discomfort, and diagnosis and management of common eye conditions.

“We are grateful to Dr. Dodge for his partnership and the support he has provided to our clinics,” said Jenn McDonnell, Director of Pharmacy and Clinic Services at Mille Lacs Health System. “His involvement has helped expand the services available locally and strengthen the care we are able to provide for our patients.”

Care is also available for more immediate concerns, such as eye infections, abrasions, or sudden vision issues. In addition, patients who are preparing for or recovering from eye procedures can receive pre- and post-operative care locally. This expanded approach allows patients to receive specialty-level eye care without the need to travel outside the community for many services.

While eyeglasses fittings and adjustments are not currently available in Onamia, patients can continue to access those services at Pierz or Little Falls locations if needed. Dr. Dodge generally sees patients in Onamia on the first and second Tuesday of each month.

Appointments are scheduled directly through Dr. Dodge’s office by calling 320-468-2020, where staff can help determine the most appropriate type of visit based on a patient’s needs.

Changes in vision, eye discomfort, or concerns about eye health are important to address, even if they seem minor. Routine care and early evaluation can help support long-term eye health and maintain quality of life. Individuals with questions about their eye health or who feel they may benefit from an evaluation are encouraged to speak with their primary care provider or contact Dr. Dodge’s office to learn more about available services.
