For the men and women who have served our country, access to quality healthcare is important. At Mille Lacs Health System (MLHS), we're proud to help local veterans receive the care they need, close to the communities they call home.
As a participating provider in the Veterans Affairs (VA) Community Care Network, MLHS can provide a variety of healthcare services to eligible veterans through their VA benefits. This means veterans may not always need to travel to a VA medical center for appointments, specialty services, or other healthcare needs.
The VA Community Care Network connects eligible veterans with participating healthcare providers in their own communities. Veterans may qualify when a VA facility is too far away, a needed service is unavailable, appointment wait times exceed established standards, or community care is determined to be in their best medical interest.
At MLHS, veterans may be able to access services such as primary care, orthopedics, cardiology, surgery, imaging, laboratory services, rehabilitation, and other specialty care, depending on their individual VA authorization.
For veterans interested in receiving care at MLHS through their VA benefits, the process typically begins with their VA primary care provider. The VA care team can request a referral for services at a participating community provider, such as MLHS.
Once approved, veterans can schedule their authorized care locally. It's important to confirm that referrals are active and cover the services being provided. Veterans should also let MLHS staff know when scheduling and checking in that they are using their VA Community Care benefits.
MLHS also provides emergency care for veterans, with VA coverage subject to eligibility and notification requirements. Veterans receiving emergency care at a non-VA facility should ensure the VA is notified within 72 hours of the start of care.
In addition to providing healthcare services throughout the year, Mille Lacs Health System is pleased to recognize those who have served with a complimentary Veterans Day breakfast.
All veterans, active-duty military members, and anyone who has previously served in the U.S. Armed Forces are invited to join us on Wednesday, November 11, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the MLHS cafeteria at our Onamia campus. The cafeteria is located just inside the main entrance, to the right. Family members and other guests are welcome to join and may purchase a breakfast.
It's a simple opportunity to gather, share a meal, and recognize the service and sacrifices of our local military members and veterans.
At Mille Lacs Health System, we're grateful for the opportunity to serve those who have served our country, not just on Veterans Day, but throughout the year.
